Track hits the ground running at WMS

It’s spring, and track has started!

Track is available at Watertown Middle School for sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-graders. The coaches for the track team are Coach Dube and Coach Dylan. Coach Dube is a health teacher, while Coach Dylan works in the ISP room down in the basement.

“I love seeing each kid improve along the season” said Coach Dube. “Track is a great way to get in shape and have a fun time while doing it.”

Track has been going on for several years. Practice takes place at Victory Field on Orchard Street on Mondays through Thursdays. The kids are preparing for multiple meets this season.

Kids usually do two warmup laps around the track and then stretch as a group. Then the kids split to sprint, distance, or field events. The options at the meets are 100, 200, 400, or 800 meters, mile, 4×100 relay, long jump, high jump and shot put.

The most popular option is the 100. It’s so popular that some kids have to switch events because there are too many kids signed up!
