Change in the menu at China Rainbow

Delicious food? Check. Friendly service? Check. Peaceful atmosphere? Check!

At China Rainbow on North Beacon Street in Watertown, all of the above are present, even after 40 years.

When you first walk into the restaurant, it is noticeably dim. After you walk in farther, you’ll see that the reason for that is because there are no windows, thus making the restaurant very dark, especially combined with the wood paneling on the walls.

There are numerous decorations hung around with Chinese writing on red backgrounds that gives the restaurant an East Asian feel. You can choose to sit at a booth, chair, or get drinks at the bar. The service is very friendly and the staff will provide you with anything you need.

We ordered the most popular dish on the menu, the spareribs on bone, as well as Sweet and Sour Wontons and General Gao’s Chicken.

First came the Sweet and Sour Wontons. They were accompanied by cherries and pineapples, which were added into the sweet and sour sauce. This was our favorite dish of the three, due to the mouth-watering sauce and nicely cooked wontons. The wontons were crunchy and soft in the middle, leaving you wanting more.

After the Wontons came the General Gao’s Chicken. It tasted good, but the chicken was slightly dry. However, the sauce helped balance out the dryness and made the dish very tasty.

Lastly we received the most popular dish in the restaurant, the Spareribs on Bone. The ribs were easy to bite into and they were very well seasoned, so we can understand how they earned the title of being the most popular dish.

We gave these three dishes 4.5 stars out of 5.

So if you’re looking for a quality Chinese restaurant close to home, stop by and give China Rainbow a try!
