Say hello to “The Greeter”

Mrs. Parshley a part of the Watertown Middle School family

SHANNON C., Watertown Splash staff

You may know her as “The Greeter,” sitting at her primary spot in the main entrance of Watertown Middle School, under the mobile. You may also know her as “Grams,” the grandmother of eighth-grader Joey Kelland.

Whatever you know her as, Mary Parshley is a very hard-working women.

Even though not everyone knows what Mrs. Parshley’s job is exactly, everyone knows that she is a very important person with many responsibilities. Whether it’s signing in or signing out tardy or dismissed students, she’s always doing something. You may even see her in the office helping Mrs. Wheaton at the secretary’s desk.

No matter what she’s doing, she always has a smile on her face. Most people would say she’s always reading some book or some newspaper, but when it comes to the end of the term she’s always busy mailing home report cards.

Although she says her favorite part of the job is seeing her grandson, she also loves helping other students. Sitting at the front desk watching all the kids go by brings back a lot of memories, says Grams.

Also, because she works at a school with another grandson, Matt Coffey (teacher’s aide/substitute), and her daughter, Lauri Kelland (sixth-grade world geography teacher), she enjoys coming in every day.
