Three cheers for WBPW cheerleading!
Watertown Belmont Pop Warner only has one cheerleading team this year, the D Team, with seven girls between the ages of 8 and 11.
The team had its first competition of the season Oct. 17 at Saugus High School, and advanced to compete again on Halloween. The girls performed an amazing routine both times but, unfortunately, they were competing against teams with 25 to 30 girls who could do more difficult things.
Because the judges where looking for teams with higher abilities to move on and try to make their way to compete in Disney World, the WBPW team did not move on.
The cheerleaders were very surprised and upset that their season was over, but they were very proud of themselves. The coaches — including Michele Desjardin, Amy Desjardin, Kristina Mey, and Jen Ryan — were also very satisfied with how well they performed.
The girls also cheered at the football team’s last game in Reading, which Watertown Belmont won, 18-12. The team finished with a 4-4 record.
