WMS football team won in many ways
With a record of two wins, one tie, and three losses, the Watertown Middle School football team set the record of most wins in one season. Quarterback Joey Kelland and running back Raffi Dutra were the captains.
“It feels sexy,” Dutra said of the position.
“It feels good to lead the team and be in charge,” Kelland said.
Dutra said he mainly tried to teach everyone to respect one another. Kelland said his favorite part about being a captain was leading the team and keeping the younger kids in line.
Not only were they a team, but they were a family. They treated each other like brothers, caring for one another’s injuries. An injury to one player made the team and coaches very scared and nervous, as one of their brothers lay motionless on the field. He was taken out on a stretcher and brought to the hospital, but was out there playing hard the next game.
“Yes we have come a long way since last year,” said coach Matt Coffey.
Coffey explained how the first win motivated the team to get pumped up for the rest of the season.
Great job guys!
