With 90 votes, “Watertown Splash” won the schoolwide election for the name of the Watertown Middle School’s brand-spanking new newspaper.

The students and faculty of the Watertown Middle School chose from five names in voting last week in homeroom. The Eagles Nest came in second with 76 votes, followed by the WMS Globe (70), News from the Nest (40), and News on the Dot (22).

The newspaper’s 26 reporters picked the names in class. The reporters, seventh- and eighth-graders who signed up for the new enrichment class, brainstormed many names and then eliminated them to get to the final five.

“I think it’s great that you’re getting the entire school to vote,” said Mr. Oates, who chose to keep his vote anonymous.
