WMS girls’ basketball: a perfect combination

The girls’ basketball team from the Watertown Middle School is doing a phenomenal job so far this season with a 3-0 record.

Captain Gabriella “Gabby” Coppola said, “We’re going to try to go undefeated this year. We can move forward a lot as a team. I have faith.”

Gabby, an eighth-grader, is the starting point guard and an all-around amazing basketball player, according to the team’s fans, players, and coaches.

Seventh-grade power forward Gigi Coppola is Gabby’s sister and also a huge part of the team.

“I always know where [Gabby’s] going to go and we make the game happen,”  Gigi said.

Seventh-grader Rachel Campbell has come a long way.

“She always gives 100 percent and always strives to be better,” said Gabby.

Christina Mazzeo plays shooting guard and is always working her hardest to be better. Mazzeo is always there to pump up the team before the games and always wants to be out on the court playing.

“Captain Shannon Cafua is also an amazing part of this team,” said Mazzeo. “She plays any position except point guard. She loves driving baseline and making the shot for an and-one.”

Cafua is a very good defensive player because she doesn’t stop until the game is over. And when she isn’t in the game, she is on the bench cheering on her teammates.

Allie Doggett, a seventh-grader, is the starting shooting guard. She always wants to play basketball and is always on the court shooting around. Doggett has made her coach, Heather Smith, very proud with her defense and her all-around excellent play.

Francesca Korte, an eighth-grader, is the team’s starting center. She wins every jump and will dive on the ground for loose balls.

Casey Halle, another eighth-grader, starts at forward. She loves to score.

Good job, girls!
