WMS choir in select company

SARAH G., Watertown Splash staff

You might have seen a group of students on stage performing songs such as “Blackbird” and a favorite, “Fireflies.” This is a group of 12-20 very talented Watertown Middle School students who make up a group called Select Choir.

It takes a lot of guts to audition; you need to have a strong voice, be able to sing well alone, and have a positive attitude. This group of students meets every Monday and Friday during extended homeroom.

Abby Cordell said the types of music Select Choir will be singing this year is a “mix of jazz, pop, a Capella.”

Dominika B., a sixth-grader, is a new member of Select Choir this year.

“It’s a fun experience, fun to try out out, see people’s talents when they don’t wanna show it.”

Dominika already got a solo. She said she’s proud of herself, and she should be.

Ms. Cordell shared some good advice for students that want to try out next year.

“Be brave and don’t be shy,” she said. “Show me what you really got.”
