Community service hours may earn presidential honors, Sox tickets
May 20, 2010
Eleanor Donato is collecting the community service logs for 2010 from Watertown Middle School students.
Whoever has done 50 or more hours was asked to pass in their logs, signed by the director of the activity, by May 17. For any other student who has done the recommended hours — Grade 6, 10 hours; Grade 7, 15 hours; and Grade 8, 20 hours — must pass in their signed logs on June 1.
Whoever qualifies for the presedential award will receive a certificate, a pin, and a letter from Barack Obama. There also will be medals given out — silver, bronze, and gold.
This year there is a special prize for seventh- and eighth-graders who complete their recommended hours. For every five hours, they will get a chance to win Red Sox tickets that were donated to the school.
Sixth-graders will have chances at a prize purchased from the money the school won for being the second in the Coats for Kids drive.
Mrs. Donato said, “Every student has the ability to get an award on award day because you all have a chance to do your community service.”
Make sure to pass in your logs!
