Pennies for Patients: It just makes cents

Annual fund-raising drive starts Friday

SARAH G., REBECCA C., and KAITIE M.

Pennies for Patients, the annual Watertown Middle School fund-raiser, is March 1 to March 22. The kickoff assembly is Feb. 26.

The Watertown Middle School has participated in Pennies for Patients — the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s school and youth program — for the past six years and has raised $116,542.11.

Eleanor Donato, who is in charge of the fund-raiser at WMS, said this year’s goal is to beat last year’s total of $26,484.10.

One of the fund-raisers will once again be a dodge ball tournament. Students from sixth, seventh, and eighth grades can make dodge ball teams. There are seven people to a team and all teams need at least one boy and one girl. Dodge ball will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays in the lower gym. At the end of the tournament, the winning team will go on to face the faculty team.

So find your team captain, get a permission slip, and turn in the $3 for an awesome cause.
